Trans Assess provides independent assessment, loss adjusting, investigation and reporting services to insurers, brokers, and claims professionals primarily relating to heavy vehicles, commercial vehicles, plant, machinery and other insured assets.

This Privacy Policy explains how Trans Assess collects, holds, uses, discloses, protects and disposes of personal information.

  • from insurers, claims management organisations, brokers or agents;

  • from government authorities or other relevant organisations where appropriate;

  • through interactions with Trans Assess, including online enquiries and assessment requests.

Where practical and appropriate, Trans Assess will collect personal information directly from the individual concerned.

Trans Assess collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information for purposes including:

  • assessing and investigating insurance claims;

  • establishing the circumstances and cause of an incident or loss;

  • assessing the extent and quantum of damage or loss;

  • assessing repair methodology and repair costs;

  • considering total loss and salvage matters;

  • validating repair estimates, quotations and invoices;

  • assessing causation and relevant policy or coverage considerations where requested by the insurer or claims professional;

  • preparing assessment, investigation and loss adjusting reports;

  • providing recommendations to insurers and claims professionals regarding claim quantum, causation, coverage and settlement considerations;

  • communicating with insured persons, claimants, insurers, brokers, repairers and other relevant parties;

  • arranging inspections, repairs, quotations or specialist assessments where required;

  • responding to enquiries and complaints;

  • complying with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations.

Trans Assess will not use personal information for unrelated purposes unless permitted or required by law or otherwise authorised.

Depending on the claim, information may be disclosed to insurers, claims management organisations, brokers, agents, insured persons or claimants where appropriate, legal representatives, repairers, dealerships, engineers, investigators, experts, salvage providers, suppliers, contractors, technology and business service providers, government authorities or other parties involved in assessing or managing a claim.

Trans Assess will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is handled appropriately when provided to third parties.

6. Overseas Storage or Processing

Trans Assess uses third-party technology and service providers to support its business operations, including email, document storage and business administration.

Some of these providers may store or process information using infrastructure located outside Australia.

Where applicable, Trans Assess will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is handled in accordance with applicable privacy obligations.

7. Security of Personal Information

Trans Assess takes reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

Trans Assess generally retains completed claim and assessment files for seven years following completion or closure of the engagement.

This period allows for legitimate business requirements, including claim reviews, supplementary assessments, disputes, complaints, professional obligations and potential legal or contractual requirements.

Information may be retained for longer where required by law, contract, insurer requirements or another legitimate business purpose.

Where information is no longer required to be retained, Trans Assess will take reasonable steps to securely delete, destroy or de-identify the information.

11. Data Breaches and Security Incidents

Trans Assess maintains procedures for responding to suspected or actual privacy and information security incidents.

Where a suspected data breach occurs, Trans Assess will take reasonable steps to contain and assess the incident, take appropriate remedial action and determine whether notification obligations apply.

Where applicable, Trans Assess will comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
